Groundworkers

Everything below the damp course and most of what surrounds it. Muckaway, dig, drainage, foundations, kerbs, slabs and external works.

What a good one looks like

A good groundworker reads a drawing properly and gets levels right first time, because everything built on top of the mistake gets more expensive by the day. Most also carry a plant ticket, which means one person can jump on the dumper rather than a gang standing about waiting for one.

It is also where the pay rate earns its keep. Good people have a choice of sites, so the rate you set decides who is willing to take the job. We show you that rate and add £25, which means you can raise it without our margin moving with it.

How our pricing works

Cards and tickets

  • CSCS card
  • NVQ Level 2 in groundworks for skilled operatives
  • Confined space where drainage requires it
  • NRSWA streetworks for highways
  • CPCS or NPORS for dumpers and rollers

What moves the rate

  • Whether the operative holds plant tickets
  • Depth and complexity of the dig
  • Whether the work is highways or private
  • Travel and site accessibility

We do not publish a rate table. Pay moves with the trade, the season and the location, so any figure printed here would be wrong within a month. Ring and we will tell you what the job is genuinely paying today.
