What a good one looks like

A good site manager is judged on what does not happen. No stand down, no scramble for materials on a Friday, no subcontractor turning up to a face that is not ready. Ask about the last job that went wrong and what they changed afterwards, because the honest answer tells you more than a CV does.

It is also where the pay rate earns its keep. Good people have a choice of sites, so the rate you set decides who is willing to take the job. We show you that rate and add £25, which means you can raise it without our margin moving with it.

  • Temporary works coordinator where relevant

What moves the rate

  • Scope and value of the project
  • Whether the role carries temporary works responsibility
  • Shift pattern and site hours
  • Length of the appointment

We do not publish a rate table. Pay moves with the trade, the season and the location, so any figure printed here would be wrong within a month. Ring and we will tell you what the job is genuinely paying today.
